Figure Study 002

Our painting group is running, here is the second painting I did. It is challenging to paint the live model on a big canvas (24"x 30"), but I think I will get use to it.
Please email me if you are interested in my figure study.

Figure study 001

I feel that over the years I have not spent enough time on my own paintings because of my schedule, and I know that some of my friends and students are very interested in painting with me. I have thought about this for a while and decided to create a small painting group with them since last month.

The group is running well so far, we found a wonderful studio from one of our members, and we have good model for two days every week, everyone feels good so far... I am happy that I can get at least two days to focus on my paintings every week! :)

Here is the first painting I did, and I believe I will be creating more beautiful paintings with the group.

Head Study - Catherine

Painted this girl with a few artists in my studio last Saturday. It's difficult for me to get time to do an open studio like this, but I think I should do more.
Please email me if you are interested in this head study.

Head Study - 2013 - 07

Figure - 2013 - 01

This is a figure study I did a week ago, it was a three day pose.
The warm light around her head and arms and natural light from the window on her leg and body created dramatic colors for the skin tone. I like it! Please email me if you are interested in this painting.

Here is a small painting I did, my daughter titled it "Lost in Thought".

If you live around the SF Bay Area, and know some good spots, please feel free to email me, maybe we can paint together.

Man with Pipe

It was supposed to be a 3 day pose, one day per week, but I finished the painting in the second week with my students. I will not have time to paint on the final day of the seamster.

We can not smoke in the room, but I added the smoke in the painting , does it make the painting any better ?:)

Rest for a moment

This is a big painting I did recently based on a small study before. Because of my fragmented time, it's took me a couple months to finish.

I find that demos for my students in Academy of Art has become the main time I touch my brush every week, I have not painted enough these couple years! I will be painting more from now on, even if they're just some small pieces. Although I am more interested in big paintings, I couldn't get continued time for them.

Gregory

This is a two day pose demo I did last week. The painting is more finished than one day pose (Alla Prima), and I got a chance to apply all different techniques on the painting, enjoyed! :)

Jason

Here is an in-class demo I did last week, very good model and this is the first time I've painted him.

My daughter joined a class one/select soccer team this season, the highest level soccer team in her age group. They had their first tournament of the season last weekend, and my daughter scored the only goal in the overtime of the championship game, helping her team win the championship. I am so proud of her!!

Copper

I finished another successful 3 day workshop last weekeed. The workshop was in Canton, Mississippi, the southern parts of the United States I have never been.

Thanks to Pat Walker who arranged the workshop, and special thanks to Cindy and Marge for such a wonderful treat, I will treasure the friendship forever.

This is the first domo I did during the workshop, and it's my third time using the limited palette (Ivory Black, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red and Titanium White), I feel more comfortable using it now. Copper was a model for the first time, he did a very good job, and he looks very serious  :)

Dr. Tapan (commission painting)

I did a commission painting for handsome marathon runner Dr. Tapan last month, here is the main part of the painting.

Usually I paint the subject that I want to paint, but occasionally painting a commission painting is fine, I enjoyed painting this painting. If you are interested in a commission painting from me, please feel free to contact me. The price is based on my gallery painting price and how difficult the subject is to paint.

I did another Portrait painting Workshop at Sacramento a week ago, it was very successful, I may do another one there next January. I also visited Crocker Art Museum for Norman Rockwell's artwork, I liked it!

" " - Not for sell

Happy New Year!

I know that I have not updated my blog for a while... I did not paint too much recently, but here is a new one to share, the painting needs a title, please let me know if you have a good one :)

My school will be begin in a couple weeks. I will still be teaching a graduate level portrait painting class this semester. I will do some more demonstrations from models and share them with you here.
