The model sat between two windows, the nature lights came from both side. I changed the color temperature on right side to create more interest and the difficult part was the light kept changing from morning to afternoon.

Rancho San Antonio County Park in Cupertino is a great place for hiking, I had been there many times with my family and friends. Today is the first time I did a Plein Air painting there with my artist friends, we enjoyed a beautiful day in the park...

Here is a painting I started last spring but could not finish it. I find it last night and I am happy I finished it today. Looks like people don’t like my nude figure :( and the nude figure is not my favorite subject either. Hopefully, not more nude figure next year…

I am so happy this is my last nude figure for the year! The nude figure is not my favorite subject to paint, but it is the best subject to practice my skill; I believe I can paint better next year.

Two figures study

Recently I did some two figures studies, here is one of them. I don't feel it's harder than one figure, but I need to think faster and paint faster because the time for the painting is as same as one figure.

I don't paint still life too much, but just did this one today for a homework, please let me know you opinion.

A man alone

His handsome face and matted hair attracted me. I felt that I painted the hair a little too tight when I looked at it the next morning. I will try it better next time.

Self portrait

I don't like to paint self portrait, but I did this one because it is a homework.
I love drawing, but most of the time I choice to paint because I love oil painting more.
So when I am painting, some time I feel I holding my brush like holding a piece of charcoal, after I finished the painting, I use my camera to transfer the picture to monochrome, then I can see my painting as a charcoal drawing, like this one.

Please let me know, if you have a title for this painting.

This is a five days painting from live, one day per week, so I used five weeks to finish the painting. The difficulty is let the model back to the same pose after a week.

I just came back from China, it was a great trip, but now I think I am back to my normal life, I will painting more and keep posting my work here.
This is still an old one which I painted months ago from Palo Alto Art Center right before my friend Qiang visit me.

I am still in Kunming City. I thought I will paint some paintings here, but looks like not easy to concentrate on it.

Here is a quick study that I did a couple of months ago, and I will keep posting my new works after I am back to home next month.

Red apple

The green cloth, and the expression of the model, reminded me “the Red Guards” during the Culture Revolution of China. I am not that old to see the real “Red Guards”, but I saw their pictures when I was kid in China.

It is difficult to paint people’s hands if she is keep moving. I added the table, apple, and the chair by imagination, just want to get better composition. I am not sure if I add more apples will looks better, how do you think?

When I take the picture of this painting, I cannot avoid the reflection from one side corner, so I changed the picture to a monochrome painting to see it, it has less effect by the refection. Because the painting is bigger (18 x 24)? If any body has any idea to solve this problem, please let me know.

I am going to China tomorrow for about a month, but I will have my paint brushes with me, so I will keep posting my work on my blog if I can find a good internet connection in Kunming.

The head and the shoulder both are important for this live painting; they are the first and second focal points. The challenge from this side angle is to create the distance between them.
I am trying to paint different subject from different angle by using different colors and techniques to sharp my skill.
